Faux Abalone from Polymer Clay

My inner "mad scientist" has been in full force lately. After a few failed attempts, which are pretty, but just don't look like faux abalone, I think I've finally done it!  Pretty pleased with this version. The sheet beneath is actual abalone. The disc is polymer clay. Faux abalone has been created with polymer clay by other artists using a variety of techniques with various unique results. The way I've done it is just a bit different. I've been asked several times about a tutorial... and all I can say right now is stay tuned. It's coming, but I can't yet share the details.
