Welcome to my NEW BLOG!

Welcome to my NEW blog! For many years my projects could be found at my previous blog - www.fatcatcreations.blogspot.com. Since my business has evolved and is now known as Cindi McGee - Behind These Eyes™ instead of Cindi Bisson - Fat Cat Creations - I thought this was the perfect time to launch a new blog. Since I've been on this creative journey for almost 16 years - I have a LOT of project links out there in cyberworld! If you are looking for a particular project you have found on Pinterest, Facebook, FaveCrafts, HomeTalk, Twitter, etc. and the link is not working for you, please feel free to email me at cdjb11@yahoo.com and I'll be sure to get you the new link to the instructions. Have a creative day and remember to DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!

Sizzix Blog Hop

Fellow designer Eileen Hull has a great new line of dies available from Sizzix! She and several other designers have been hosting a fantastic weekly blog hop highlighting projects made from each of the dies! I was lucky enough to receive a package of die cuts to tinker with - and have had fun experimenting! This week's focus was on the frame die - here's my interepretation. It's Egyptian theme came from the photo of my husband and youngest son after they rode the Mummy ride at Universal Studios. The frame itself was cut from golden textured metallic mattboard. I simply stamped an assortment of Egtyptian images collage style on the front and back, embossed with Egyptian Treasure embossing powder (sort of veridgris green) and added some fibers and hand made Makin's Clay beads. The frame itself is held together with square copper brads. I love these little frames - I think they'd make great little thank you's for teachers, gifts for grandparents at Easter or any holiday with a holiday photo, etc. Check out the other designers' blogs for more inspiration using Eileen's new dies!

CHA Review

Warning: This is a long post with multiple photos..... :0) Finally got my photos resized and am ready to share! (If you click on a photo, you should be able to see a larger view with more detail...) The show in Orlando was MUCH smaller than past CHA shows, but there were still plenty of new & interesting products to add to your wish list. One trend I was thrilled to notice was lots of dimensional and textured elements. As a lover of all art that is lumpy & bumpy, this stuff is right up my ally! Lots of celebrity sitings too - Carol Duvall was interviewed by Megan Araujo for When Creativity Knocks (see photo of Ana Araujo, Megan, Carol and I below), other crafty celebrities I spotted included Suze Weinberg, Mark Montano, Sarah Hodsdon, Lisa Pavelka, Cathy Cano-Marillo, Patrick Marillo, Donna Dewberry, Mary Engelbreit, Matt Fox & Shari Hiller, Margot Potter, Claudine Helmouth, Tim Holtz, and more! I was fortunate enough to get to speak with many of them and they are all truly inspiring! Now for some photos & info....
One of my favorite "new" finds was Buzz and Bloom - this is an Australian based company and they really have some unique, fabulous products to offer! I loved their denim & cordouroy etched letters and shapes. Acrlyic albums with etched covers, and colorful acrlyic shapes were truly eye candy that made me drool! (Photos above).
We R Memory Keepers has a great new tool (stay tuned for the When Creativity Knocks Great Crafters Tool Hunt which will soon be on the site to learn about this and many more new tools!). They also had a collection of sports papers & products that caught my eye.

Reminisce had a textured line of animal print papers that just yelled out TOUCH ME when you walked by - flocked tiger & zebra stripes, ripply elephant skin..... loved them!

Prima offered some dimensional floral accents to add texture with a feminine touch.

Karen Foster has some great new titles - I love how they have assorted "font" and texture styles in each title! Looks like you custom made it, but in a fraction of the time!

Graphic 45 is a new company offering product with a vintage feel. Their samples were bursting with dimension, texture, depth..... absolutely stunning.
Blumenthal Lansing had a great make & take - button pendants! Simply hot glue the 3
buttons together - everything from bright & funky, floral and even skull & crossbones (which I just had to have 2 of for Joe & Tom!)

Expo International is always a
booth I can't miss, and they didn't disappoint this time - their new line of Bazooples embroidered appliques are adorable. The quality of the embroidery and the vibrancy of the colors is fantastic.

Maya Road has great acrylic albums - the bird shaped one shown in this photo on the right side was my favorite!

Kandi Corp may be known for it's shiny bling, but it was this Brass It Up collection that jumped out at this mom of 2 boys. Check out those Aliens!!!

Quick Quotes had a tropical feel at their booth - love the dimensional paper flowers, the colors, and the chipboard flip flop "boxes" - what a FUN way to create a summer memory album!

Sassafras had these fuzzy monsters on display - they reminded me of my own little "monsters" back at home!

That's it for now - got to get back to my creative frenzy!

I've been promoted!

I'm excited to announce I've been promoted to Associate Producer for When Creativity Knocks! Thanks Ana, Scott & Megan! I look forward to continuing to work closely with you all!

Another digi site!

I've been in a hybrid frenzy these last few days, and found another great site which offers a freebie kit monthly and a great store full of kits. I've been using hybrid elements not just for scrapping, but for all kinds of crafting!

Just thought I'd share. Off to CHA tomorrow!

Orlando, Here I Come!

Leaving on Tuesday for CHA in Orlando! I'll be working with When Creativity Knocks and Creative Charms. I will take lots of photos and share when I return next week.

I've also been squeezing in some time for a little scrapbooking these last couple of weeks. I am enjoying the options that hybrid offer me - found a great site with lots of freebies which I love!

http://createwithtlc-createwithtlc.blogspot.com/

The "Can we keep him Mommy?" set is great for a mom with boys like I have (always finding some sort of multi-legged creature and carrying it in to show me!)

Same photos, 3 layouts.....

I had these fun photos of the boys dressed up as "rock stars" playing their cardboard guitars (Yes, they are crafty too! They made these guitars!) - I decided to use them for a project I was working on for a manufacturer, but the boys wanted their OWN layouts and they really wanted me to use the "big guitar paper with the skulls!". As always, I couldn't resist whipping out my acrylic paint, a little bling with some red & clear rhinestones, and the paper has metallic guitars...... I just can't seem to stop being a "texture junkie". Rather than copy the original, I tried a couple variations - here are the results. The boys really liked them all :0)

Feelin' Sporty!

I'm not sure whether it's the start of Soccer season here in NC, or if it's the premiere of my web tv episode featuring a sports themed project, but my creative muse has "kicked" into high gear and I'm churning out sports layouts like crazy! Thought I'd share a few here. All the patterned papers and rub-ons are from Scrappin Sports & More! Soccer brads from Creative Charms. And each layouts features one of my favorites for sports projects - Magic Mesh! Another layout will be featured in an upcoming issue of Rubber Road Reflections.... Enjoy!

More from CHA...

While the show was a bit smaller than in the past, there was still plenty of great product to be seen and some fabulous make & takes! Plaid always has great jewelry make & takes and they didn't let me down this time, then on to Ranger's booth to make a fun UTEE ring with Suze Weinberg. I learned to felt using recycled sweaters, bent brass charms, got an autographed copy of Mark Montano's Big Ass Book of Crafts and Stephanie Girard's Sweater Surgery books.... and best of all spent time with 'old' friends and made lots of new friends!!! It was a great week!

I think my favorite find was Vintaj - they make natural brass charms and findings - a truly great assortment and a gorgeous booth with a rustic feel.

Pebbles, Inc. had a wonderful booth with absolutely fabulous new papers. Little Yellow Bicycle came through with a colorful selection. Creative Options was giving out their fun green tote bags - this time with coordinating scrapbook papers & embellishments - wahoo!

I discovered the Port-a-Palette - a very clever new portable tool for storing and carrying craft paints. Amate Studios has a very inspiring assortment of jewelry "blanks" in copper, silver, pewter, and goldtone.... I can't wait to let my creative muse free with these!! A perfect companion for these Amate findings is Judikins new products - Mica Gloss (yummy sparkling color!!!) and sunlight curing epoxy!! Finally - epoxy in a small, easy to use format!
I discovered a talented fellow designer in the License & Design section of the show - Linda Calvert Jacobson - I hope she did wonderfully as her work is absolutely breathtaking!
Makin's Clay offers some new tools for clay artists. Creative Charms has some gorgeous new flowers and butterflies. EarthSafe Finishes assortment of green products was a must see. Kandi Corps booth offered some neat ideas for hot wax art. Scraperfect.com spoiled the Makin's team with custom colored Perfect Printing Pouches (perfect not just for printing, but for acting as a release agent on texture sheets and push molds!) Many generous companies spoiled the designers at the designer get together (we all got a goody bag full of fabulous products including Coredinations cardstock Clover bowmakers, Pentel products, a Scraperfect printing pouch, a Hambly screenprint transparency, Expo International trim, and more!) I can hardly wait until the summer show in Orlando!

CHA!!

This photo sums up my recent trip to CHA in California! Lots of hard work as always, I broke my toe the first morning of set-up, and my camera went kapoot the 2nd morning of the show, but we still managed to have lots of laughs and some great food too! My taping of When Creativity Knocks on behalf of Darice went well - I'll keep you posted on when it is to air. I spent lots of time doing make & take projects in the Makin's Clay booth, spent some time helping out in the When Creativity Knocks booth and with a class taught by Ana Araujo, and helped with the Creative Charms booth! My artwork was displayed in the Eco-Lounge Designer Gallery, at the Makin's Clay booth and at the Kandi Corp booth. More info and photos to follow soon.......

Melting Pot Madness with UTEE

I belong to Suze Weinberg's Yahoo Group and everyone has been chatting lately about using their melting pots - so I just had to get mine out and play! The result was a state of melting pot madness - I couldn't stop! I like to make original jewelry to wear at CHA - these are two of the sets I created for the Winter show in Anaheim. If you aren't familiar with UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) it's a great product for all kinds of melt art - it can be used in the melting pot, or with an embossing heat tool for some uses. Suze's website, newsletter and blog are full of fantastic ideas on using UTEE in your artwork. - http://www.schmoozewithsuze.com

The purple & turqouise set is a 'technique' I call "twisted blown blob beads" - very technical term, I know...... the pendent and earrings have UTEE also - behind glass facings with mirrored edges.

The dragonfly set was made with Ranger Mold & Pour - I made the dragonfly mold and the bead molds (thanks to Becky Chabot for tips on how to make bead molds!). Bronze UTEE and Verdigris embossing powder were used.

Now I'm off to melt into madness again.....
