Bold Monarch Polymer Clay Trading Coin or Pendant

Artist trading coins are the next “big thing” in artist trading projects.  The team at CreateAlong and I have taken it to the next step and are sharing POLYMER TRADING COINS!

There are 15 tutorials in our new book, and a huge gallery of inspiration. You can get your copy of the book here at CreateAlong.

Today I’m sharing a quick tutorial for how I created one of the gallery coins.

Condition and roll black clay to setting #2 in clay machine.
Place dots silkscreen orange side down over black clay sheet. Silkscreen your choice of images with orange paint. Carefully lift silkscreen. Wash silkscreen and squeegee immediately.

Let paint dry on both clay sheets.

Use 2.25” circle cutter to cut around the dots image.

Roll additional sheet of orange clay. Use 2.5” circle cutter to cut disc from orange clay sheet.

Use craft knife to carefully trim around silkscreened butterfly image.

Mount butterfly centered on black disc. The wings will extend off the sides.

Place black silkscreened disc with the butterfly centered on orange disc.

Add black Hot Fix cabochons equally spaced around the outer top edge of the black disc.

Bake according to manufacturer instructions.

Trade your coin with a friend!

Not into trading coins?  I am going to make another one of these and turn it into a pendant by simply adding a bail and some black cording.
