Shades of Brown & Turquoise Mixed-Media Bubble Frame Memory Book

Shades of Brown & Turquoise
Mixed-Media Bubble Frame Memory Book
Designed for the Independent Manufacturing Partners (I.M.P.) - CHA Winter 2012

Each member of the I.M.P. shared a unique product for use in this mixed-media project. My challenge was to create a project that combined them all.  Together, they meld into a truly unique home-decor accent suitable for almost any theme.  A Globecraft Memories frame serves as the base, but this project is more than just a frame, it’s also a mini-book to preserve more photos, memorabilia, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Roll sheet of Natural Makin’s Clay® using Makin’s Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine™ on setting #5 .   Place clay onto top layer (smallest piece) of Globecraft Memories frame.  Gently form clay around entire front of chipboard layer, pressing inward and around back on opening for globe.

Place globe into front of frame, ensuring clay fits tightly around globe, yet globe still fits entirely through opening.  Flatten any clay around opening that is interfering with a good fit.  Remove globe.

Gently press Makin’s® texture sheet into some areas of clay.  Repeat with second texture sheet in smooth areas.

Lightly dust surface of clay with ScapPerfect Perfect Crafting Pouch.  Gently press an assortment of uninked JustRite® Stampers rubber stamps into wet clay in a collage effect.

Lightly rub Clearsnap Chestnut brown ink pad over top of stamped clay, this will cause the surface to be lightly enhanced with brown and the stamped image will show through.  To dry pigment ink immediately, lightly pat surface with Perfect Crafting Pouch.

Place globe back into stamped, inked frame front, set aside.
Place globe back into stamped, inked frame front, set aside.

Push small amount of Natural clay into desired flower on Makin’s® floral push mold.  Repeat until you have 5 flowers.

Lightly apply Chestnut ink pad directly to top of clay flower, just coloring edges of petals.  Lightly dust with Perfect Crafting Pouch to dry pigment ink instantly.

Apply Clearsnap Frosted Aqua Smooch® as an accent over some inked petal edges.

Push small amount of Brown Makin’s® clay into small multi-leaf image on floral push mold.  Repeat until you have approximately 5 leaves.  Set aside.

The Best Glue Ever will be used to mount all elements in following steps.

Measure and cut 5 5/8” x 7 3/16” piece of The Robin’s Nest Calamity Jane roses paper, mount to back base piece of frame using small amount of glue on all edges.

Measure and cut 5 5/8” x 7 3/16” piece of Calamity Jane roses paper, mount to front base piece of frame:

Gently rub Clearsnap Turquoise ink pad around all 4 edges of paper covered backing piece.

Place textured clay front layer and paper covered back layer on scrap paper.

LIGHTLY spritz both sides of backing and front of clay with Clearsnap Candle Glow Smooch® Spritz.  Set aside.

On back side of 2nd layer of frame (with oval opening), ink Rubber Stamp Concepts stamps with Chestnut brown ink and
stamp collage style directly to surface.  Lightly apply Perfect Crafting Pouch to dry ink.

Measure and cut 5 3/16” x 6 5/8” piece of brown glitter Fleur-de-lis Robin’s Nest card stock for second layer of frame.

Measure and cut 4 1/2” x 6” piece of Calamity Jane Roses paper.

Mount roses paper to BACK of glitter brown card stock.

USING GLUE ONLY ON BOTTOM, LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES, mount to FRONT of 2nd layer of frame (COVERING OPENING FOR GLOBE) - The floral paper will show through the opening on the BACK of the 2nd layer.  By not mounting the top of this piece, a photo can be inserted to show through the oval opening.

Ink edges of 2nd layer with Chestnut brown ink.

Measure over approximately 1/2” from right edge of front of back piece.  Apply piece of 1/8” double sided Rubber Stamp Concepts tape vertically.   Apply Rubber Stamp Concepts gold foil over tape and rub to transfer foil to tape strip.

To make pages of book:

Measure and cut 4 1/2” x 6” piece of Calamity Jane Striped paper.   Measure over 1/4” from left and score vertically (The Westcott®Trim Air trimmer includes a scoring blade which simplifies this step!) On back, choose Rubber Stamp Concepts rubber stamps, ink with Turquoise and Chestnut brown ink pads and stamp along left edge.   Gently apply Perfect Crafting Pouch to dry ink instantly.

The Perfect Crafting Pouch makes it possible to stamp on polyester twill without the ink bleeding.  Gently rub pouch over 6” strip of 1/2” white Wrights® polyester twill.  Ink JustRite® Stampers Fleur-de-lis border stamp with Chestnut ink, stamp directly onto twill.   Mount vertically overlapping stamped image from step above.

Repeat for 4 1/2” x 6” double sided Calamity Jane Glitter Roses paper.  (Remember to score approximately 1/4” from left edge.)   Ink Rubber Stamp Concepts border stamp with Chestnut brown ink, stamp onto top edge of solid brown back of paper.   Gently apply Perfect Crafting Pouch to dry ink instantly.

For last page of book, use 4 1/2” x 6” piece of Calamity Jane roses paper as a backing.  Mount 3” x 6” piece of coordinating paper (stripes or glitter roses) over left side, and 1 1/2” x 3” brown foiled Fleur-de-lis card stock over right as shown. (Remember to score approximately 1/4” from left edge.)

To make clay pocket, use Wescott® Trim Air trimmer to cut dry sheet of clay into rectangle approximately width of page.   (*Thin, dry sheets of Makin’s Clay® can be cut with scissors and trimmers, punched, or die cut!)

Ink JustRite stamp with Turquoise ink and stamp onto clay.  Gently apply Perfect Crafting Pouch to dry ink instantly.

Measure and cut polyester twill to fit horizontally across clay pocket.  Gently rub pouch over twill.   Ink JustRite® Stampers Fleur-de-lis border stamp with Chestnut ink, stamp directly onto twill.   Mount overlapping stamped images from step above.
Apply glue to BOTTOM, LEFT AND RIGHT  edges of back of stamped clay sheet.  Let set until clear approximately 2 minutes, mount to bottom of book base page.
Apply small amount of glue to SCORED outside edge of each page, LET GLUE SET UNTIL CLEAR approximately 2 minutes.  Glue together with stripe on top, then floral, then base.  Glue to 2nd layer of frame (with globe opening), aligned with left edge and centered vertically.

Mount Rubber Stamp Concepts EcoArtBoard™ Inchies to each corner on back of book base piece. Place glue onto EcoArtBoard™ inchie squares, mount onto base of frame so that FRONT OF BOOK (with globe opening) is CENTERED on back (*When open - actual pages will be to the left of the foiled line on backing.)
Use fingertip to apply small amounts of glue directly to brown molded clay leaves (do not cover entirely - just randomly apply to both sides).  Set aside for approximately 2 minutes until glue beings to dry clear. Place gold foil over semi-dried glue, gently rub to transfer foil glued areas on brown leaves for a gold leafing effect.

*The ultra fine tip of The Best Glue Ever also allows you to draw delicate lines or fill in tiny areas of a stamped image to be foiled.  Simply apply glue, let dry until clear, then apply foiling, glitter, flocking, fibers and more.

Measure and cut 4” x 6” piece of transparency film.  Place desired amount of fibers, The Robin’s Nest Dew Drops, and clay flower and leaves into globe.

Use Rubber Stamp Concepts 1/8” double sided adhesive tape to mount transparency piece over opening in globe.  Set aside.

Arrange remaining clay flowers, leaves, and mount directly to stamped clay front using Best Glue Ever.

Apply small spots of glue where Dew Drops will be used as accents.  Let dry until clear.   The ScrapPerfect Embellie Gellie makes it easy to place small accents just where you want them - simply place a small amount of the gel onto the end of your application stick, then touch the embellishment you wish to add.  When placed, gently roll the Embellie Gellie to remove from embellishment.

Apply adhesive to area of globe which will be mounted to clay front.   Let set until clear.   Mount globe to front piece.

Apply glue to LEFT, RIGHT AND BOTTOM EDGES ONLY of clay front with globe.  Let dry until clear.

While waiting for glue to dry clear, ink JustRite® Stamp with Chestnut ink and stamp collage style, re-inking every 3rd time you stamp, on front and back of stand for frame.  Ink edges of stand by applying Chestnut ink directly.
When glue has dried clear, mount clay front with globe centered to front of book (brown layer) using pressure to adhere well.   By leaving top open, photo can be inserted to show behind globe.

The Best Cleaner Ever is a new earth-safe solvent with many useful applications including removing ink from stamps and fingers.
