Welcome to my NEW BLOG!

Welcome to my NEW blog! For many years my projects could be found at my previous blog - www.fatcatcreations.blogspot.com. Since my business has evolved and is now known as Cindi McGee - Behind These Eyes™ instead of Cindi Bisson - Fat Cat Creations - I thought this was the perfect time to launch a new blog. Since I've been on this creative journey for almost 16 years - I have a LOT of project links out there in cyberworld! If you are looking for a particular project you have found on Pinterest, Facebook, FaveCrafts, HomeTalk, Twitter, etc. and the link is not working for you, please feel free to email me at cdjb11@yahoo.com and I'll be sure to get you the new link to the instructions. Have a creative day and remember to DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!

Rustic Reclaimed Wood Wedding Guest Book Sign

A friend’s daughter found the clever idea of using a reclaimed wood sign as a guest book for her outdoor wedding on Pinterest.  Her father made the sign from old pallet boards, and they asked me to paint it for her.   We looked at several examples, and settled on this version.   I think it’s a unique idea and will make a fabulous rustic keepsake of their special day to display in their home.

Materials:

Pallet wood sign
DecoArt® Americana Decor™ Chalky Finish Paint - Lace, Carbon
Paper
Pencil
Ruler
Craft knife
Scissors
Paintbrushes
Computer & printer (or stencils of your choice)

Instructions:

Determine the size of the heart you want for the background image for your text.   Create a paper template.  Use a ruler to help center the template on your sign.  Trace around the heart.

Paint the heart with two coats of Lace DecoArt® Americana Decor™ Chalky Finish paint.  Let dry.

To create the stencils for your lettering, find a font you like.  I chose “Return to Sender”.
Type your text and resize as appropriate to fit inside your heart   Print out lettering.

Carefully cut around each letter with a craft knife to create a stencil/template for your lettering.

Use the ruler to center the lettering and trace onto the heart.

Paint the text with two coats of Carbon Chalky Finish paint.  Let dry completely then erase any pencil lines that may remain after painting.

Display the finished guest book sign at the wedding along with permanent markers for the guest to sign it.   After the wedding, spray the entire surface with DecoArt® Americana Spray Sealer - Matte.
