Autumn Acorn Dyed Button Wall Art
Materials:
- Smoothfoam Sheet Crafts Foam for Modeling, 0.5 by 12 by 36-Inch, White
- Natural Burlap Fabric Sheet Size: 22″ X 35″
- Beacon Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive, 4-Ounce
- Beacon Gem-Tac Permanent Adhesive, 4-Ounce
- Brown 1/2” gross grain ribbon
- Blumenthal Lansing – Favorite Findings Buttons Assorted 130/Pkg
- Rit Dye Liquid (8 Ounces) – in your choice of color (Cocoa Brown and Dark Brown)
- Westcott Titanium Bonded Non Stick Scissors, 8″ Straight
- Westcott Hobby Knife with 5 Assorted Titanium Blades
- Paper cups or plastic bowls, spoon, craft gloves, microwave, paper towels
Instructions:
1) Wearing craft gloves, in paper cup, mix 1 tbsp. Cocoa Brown Rit Dye and 1/3 cup water. Add assortment of white buttons. Cover with paper towel, place in microwave and heat for approximately 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from microwave, use spoon to remove buttons. If buttons are not dark enough, let soak until desired color is reached.
2) In separate paper cup, mix 1/2 tbsp. Dark Brown Rit Dye and 1/4 cup water. Add assortment of white buttons. Cover with paper towel, place in microwave and heat for approximately 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from microwave, use spoon to remove buttons. If buttons are not dark enough, let soak until desired color is reached.
3) Cut Smoothfoam™ sheet to approximately 7” x 7” with craft knife.
4) Cut piece of burlap approximately 7 1/2” x 7 1/2”, mount to top of foam square. Let dry. Remove strings from burlap and trim to approximately 1/8” – 1/4” around edge of square.
5) Arrange buttons on burlap to form acorn shape, using darker buttons for cap on acorn. Mount with Gem Tac glue.
6) Use Fabri-Tac to mount 1/2” brown ribbon around outside edge of foam square beneath extended burlap edge. Mount strips of brown ribbon around inside edge of top, allowing burlap ‘fringe’ to extend beyond as shown.
7) Add ribbon loop to center of top of back of foam to hang.
