Rustic Pillow Re-Do
A trip to the local Goodwill Industries store can be like a treasure hunt. These thrift stores
are full of items just waiting to be repurposed and given new life, at a fraction of the cost of buying materials new. I often use clothing from these types of stores for fabric, and it’s one of my favorite places to get pillows to use as pillow forms! Simply wash and dry and you are ready to re-create!
These large 18” x 18” sofa pillows were just $2.00 each. One side was already dark brown, which I left as is. On the reverse side, I used Beacon Fabri-Tac Adhesive (www.beaconadhesives.com) to mount burlap over the entire face of each pillow, and to mount the accent pieces and ribbons. 7/8” Coffee brown grosgrain ribbon was mounted where the edge of the burlap meets the rolled edge of the pillow face.
Smaller scraps of burlap in two shades, 1” dark brown grosgrain ribbon, and fabulous wooden Elements buttons from Blumenthal Lansing (www.blumenthallansing.com) finished off each design.
