These days, both Zentangle and Adult Coloring Books are all the rage. While I’ve spent a lifetime “doodling” designs on then back of envelopes, etc. while on the phone, I’ve yet to be able to truly master the art of Zentangle with results I am happy with. So when this month’s Gel Press™ blog hop theme was Zentangle, I knew I had to come up with an alternative plan. Google to the rescue! I Googled “copyright free Zentangle printables” and found this “coloring book page”. A cat, and flowers, two of my favorite things! I had my answer. The semi-translucent properties of Silks Acrylic Glaze meant I could create a beautiful mono printed background for the printed image in some of my favorite colors using my Gel Press™ plate.
Be sure to follow through and see what other Zentangle creations our designers are sharing.

Instructions:
Use palette knife to apply a very light amount of Silk paints to the 8x10” Gel Press™ plate. Begin on the bottom, starting with Olive Vine, then Midori Melon, then Kiwi, then Blue Bayou, Meridian Blue and Sea Spray at the top. Lightly brayer. It will appear almost as if there is nothing on your Gel Press™ plate, as you are using a very small amount of glaze and it has a semi-translucent quality.
Place paper over plate and pull print. Set aside to dry.
Size Zentangle image you wish to print to desired size. My image is 7 x 9”. Print directly onto gel printed paper.
Cut piece of Smoothfoam™ sheet to 7 x 9”.
Wrap print around Smoothfoam™ sheet, glueing in place on sides/back with Beacon® Zip Dry™.
Cut pieces of blue grosgrain ribbon to fit along each side. Use Fabri-Tac™ to glue in place.
Make loop for hanging, glue centered on back top.
Use colored pencils in shades of greens & blues to lightly accent some areas of flowers. Use green pencil to color cat’s eyes.
Thank you Jean!
