Dyed Vellum Autumn Leaves
Creating beautiful shear vellum in a rainbow of custom colors is easy to do. This card features leaves stamped onto autumn shades and is perfect for a birthday or Thanksgiving greeting card.
Materials for dyed vellum technique:
- Rit Liquid Dye – Cocoa Brown, Taupe, Scarlet, Tangerine, Golden Yellow, Wine
- Vellum
- Bowl/shallow baking dish, hot water, microwave, paper towels
Additional materials used to create the card:
- Brown card stock
- Harmonie Baroque Blanc PA102 patterned kraft paper
- Gold organza ribbon
- Wooden leaf rubber stamp
- Burnt Umber Palette ink pad
- Beacon Tacky Glue
- Westcott TrimAir Premium Titanium Paper Trimmer, Titanium Bonded Scissors
Instructions:
- Prepare Rit Liquid Dye and water following manufacturer instructions for the shade you wish to achieve. Only a small amount of prepared dye is needed if you place it into a shallow baking dish.
- Place sheer vellum into the prepared dye. Allow to sit just long enough for color to seep into vellum, then remove and place on paper towels to dry. If vellum curls, it can be placed between layers of towels and ironed on low heat to remove the curling.
- This is one of the ways I like to use any excess dye I may have when creating other projects. It’s great to have a stash of colored vellums for future projects.
- To create the leaves for this card, I stamped the leaf image with a Palette ink pad onto the dry vellum, then cut around the stamped images.
