Welcome to my NEW BLOG!

Welcome to my NEW blog! For many years my projects could be found at my previous blog - www.fatcatcreations.blogspot.com. Since my business has evolved and is now known as Cindi McGee - Behind These Eyes™ instead of Cindi Bisson - Fat Cat Creations - I thought this was the perfect time to launch a new blog. Since I've been on this creative journey for almost 16 years - I have a LOT of project links out there in cyberworld! If you are looking for a particular project you have found on Pinterest, Facebook, FaveCrafts, HomeTalk, Twitter, etc. and the link is not working for you, please feel free to email me at cdjb11@yahoo.com and I'll be sure to get you the new link to the instructions. Have a creative day and remember to DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!

Vintage Soda Bottle Lamp

The kitchen at our lake cottage is decorated in a retro style.  I made vintage bottle cap cabinet knobs, we have vintage soda bottles on display, vintage soda signs, etc.   I wanted to create a small accent light to add to the kitchen - and the etchall® Ligthen Up kit was the perfect solution.  I could use one of our vintage bottles as the base, and add some “bottle caps” to the shade, along with some metallic fabric to mimic the chrome on some of our other retro kitchen accessories.

Materials:

etchall® Lighten Up Kit
Fairfield® Oly*Fun™ - Silver Metallic
Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive™
Scissors
Printed vintage soda bottle cap images
Vintage soda bottle
Red gross grain ribbon - 1/4”

Instructions:

Print off vintage soda bottle cap images (I found mine on various sources on the internet - just copied and pasted to resize as needed to print).  Cut out each cap.

Trace template from Lighten Up Kit onto silver metallic Oly*Fun fabric.  Cut out.

Arrange bottle caps on silver fabric and use 3-in-1 Adhesive to mount.

Trace top of screw on lid onto silver fabric and cut out, mount to top of lid.  Mount red ribbon to outer edge of lid.

Insert batteries, screw lid to top of shade.  Click button on inside and set lamp shade on top of vintage bottle and you have a cute retro accent lamp.  This would also make a fun night light.

Here's the link to my cabinet knobs....

Cherry Blossom Headband Featured in Craft Ideas Magazine

I am thrilled to share that I have a project tutorial featured in the Spring 2017 issue of Craft Ideas magazine!  I share how to create a springtime Cherry Blossom headband using Makin's Clay®, a CreateAlong.com silicone mold, DecoArt® Metallic Lustres, and Beacon Adhesives™.

Golden Leopard Bracelet

This resin bracelet project is also featured this week in my Cindi's Creative Solutions article at When Creativity Knocks.

Materials:

Alumilite® White Casting Resin
Alumilite® Resin Dye - Black
Plaid® Mod Podge® Mold Molds - Patterns
DecoArt® Metallic Lustre™ - Gold Rush
Judikins Diamond Glaze™
Goldtone chain, jump rings, closure
Jewelry pliers
Heavy duty small hole punch

Instructions:

Mix very small amount of Alumilite® White Casting Resin according to manufacturer instructions.  Add a few drops of black Alumilite® Resin Dye and mix thorougly.

Pour into square leopard mold.  Pour any excess resin into other shapes.

Cure according to manufacturer instructions, removing square just before resin is totally cured (it will still be slightly flexible at this point).  Gently bend and prop between resin bottles and allow to cure the rest of the way until fully set.

Repeat to make 3 squares.

Apply a very light amount of Burnished Brass Metallic Lustre to highlight pattern on surface of each piece.

Apply thin coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze™ to surface to seal lustre.  Let dry.

Use heavy duty small hole punch to punch 2 holes in each side of each piece.

Add jump rings and small sections of goldtone chain between each square.  (Length of chain will depend upon desired finish length of bracelet.)

Add closure.

Paisley Polymer Clay Necklace

"Mishmashing" again - this time to create a paisley necklace to match this skirt. These are a combination of techniques from two classes from the Polymer Clay Adventure.... Ann & Karen Mitchell's class (the herringbone technique is awesome!), and the outer edge border is similar to one in Syndee Holt's class. And I admit I'm addicted to the awesome silkscreens from CreateAlong.com! The adventure is a blast - so many techniques you can adapt and use on endless projects!  :) Want to join in the fun? Purple Pizzaz Pendant

I had a little fun this week creating a pendant to match a new dress - I combined a few techniques and ideas from 3 of the 2017 Polymer Clay Adventure workshops.   Debbie Crother's Cabachon class, a chain accent inspired by Ann & Karen Mitchell's class, and a bezel like the one I teach in my class.  I finished it off with a layer of Amazing Clear Cast resin.   I also discovered a really neat way to silkscreen with Createalong.com's awesome silkscreens when creating this piece - I'll share what I discovered soon! :)

Want to join the adventure?  There's still plenty of time - 24 unique workshops, 26 instructors - learn at your own pace from home - all for $99.  That's about $4 a class!
